Below is an audio extract from “The Capitol Pressroom” on WCNY for March 7, 2012. Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern) of Rockland County is angry over an attempt by United Water to use her in its push to build a desalination plant in Haverstraw.

  1. The treatment plant is good for Haverstraw. They will get the tax benafit. For those who use the water will pay a higher rate and there is no way of getting around it. The plant will be costly to maintain.
Those added fees are on going and will escalate in time. The power to drive it will be expensive and the cost of that power changes year to year. All you need is an energy shortage. There are to many variables that will effect the cost of purification.
I don’t think there is a necessity for it. I pass the dam at least once a week and it is full and it has been that way as long as I can remember.
This is a means to generate more profit and nothing more
All they have to do is dig a bigger hole to retain more water. This is a one shot thing and not an ongoing expense.
It cost me about $70.00 to $150 per quarter depending on the season. I can see that increase at least ten percent with out question.
I don’t like it and I don’t support it and it smells fishy.
There are alot of other ways this can be done.
